Ingrown Toenail Service
What is an Ingrown Toenail?
An ingrown toenail, medically known as onychocryptosis, is a common condition that occurs when the edge or corner of a toenail grows into the surrounding skin of the toe. This condition can be painful and lead to redness, swelling, and sometimes infection. Ingrown toenails most commonly affect the big toe but can occur on any toenail.

Causes of Ingrown Toenails
-
Improper Nail Trimming: One of the most common causes is cutting the toenails too short or rounding the edges instead of cutting them straight across. This can encourage the nail to grow into the skin.
-
Tight-Fitting Footwear: Shoes that are too tight or narrow can put pressure on the toes, pushing the nail into the skin.
-
Injury: Trauma to the toenail, such as stubbing the toe or dropping something heavy on it, can cause the nail to grow irregularly.
-
Curved Nails: Some people have naturally curved or unusually shaped nails that are more prone to becoming ingrown.
-
Genetics: A family history of ingrown toenails may increase the likelihood of developing the condition.
-
Poor Foot Hygiene: Inadequate foot hygiene, such as not keeping the feet clean and dry, can contribute to ingrown toenails.
